History of LFC
In 1892 having acquired the hallowed Anfield ground from Everton following a dispute over rent Liverpool Football Club was born.Liverpool FC is amongst the most successful clubs in the world with a long and detailed history of success, having won more trophies than any other English club. They have won the most English League titles with eighteen, their most recent success coming in 1990. They are third in Europe terms of European Cup wins with five wins to their name; an English record.
Famous for its Kop, named as a form of memorial to all those Liverpudlians who lost their lives fighting a battle at Spion Kop during the Boer War.
In the 1960s one of Britain’s most successful and respected football managers Bill Shankly transformed the club into a European superpower with the likes of Tommy Smith and Ron Yeats who Shankly famously described as his "colossus", and Roger Hunt who scored 245 league goals.
Later Bob Paisley's additions to the squad were an important factor in Liverpool's success during the 70s and 80s with signings of the calibre of Alan Hanson, Kenny Dalglish and Ian Rush having a significant impact on the teams performance. Other significant names in the LFC hall of fame include John Aldridge, Peter Beardsley, John Barnes and goal keepers Ray Clemence and Bruce Grobbelaar.
More recently other famous players have emerged from Liverpool's own youth set up such as Steve McManaman, Robbie Fowler, Michael Owen, Jamie Carragher and the current captain Steven Gerrard.
